Snow-like Longing
Written at Saint Valentine ’s Day
By Rose Lu (Bing hua) Tr. East Sea Fairy
I truly want to turn into snow flakes
And softly land on your shoulders
Take to your coldness some banks of willow green
I do want to send you a love lyric
And place you in its scene
But I’m the only one who tune in it over and over again
Heeding the lyric, heeding the rustling wind on a winter day
That seals up a feeling tightly
I gaze at your face, familiar and strange
And my heart is pierced painful by a rose from distance
Time and time again, we meet in dreams
Dream after dream. Is it no more than a dream?
In and out of the dream, a seed makes melt the February ice
That once carried you silently from blow of flowers to their withering away
In and out of dream, I cut my yearning into a fine rain
That keeps dropping on a bone-cutting windy night till there are rhymed lines
I don’t know when the poetic mood comes or the moment it’s gone
I just know my longing for you is like snow, yet without falling down.
