and I need help for people who knows the cost of living in Shanghai. The reason I did not ask anyone in here was I don't want anyone to mis-understand that I want to show off. If you know like what I write below, please just ignore me. Thanks.
I met an old couple in Shanghai in 1992. The husband taught in unversity before and retired in 70's. The wife never work. This first time I met they, I noticed they were the first couples did not take adventage of me since I came back from oversea. My father told me they are very honest and very poor, because the retirement pay is really minimum. Also, they have no kids or relative to support them.
Since my father passed away in 1993, I started sending money to them ( that is the money I sent to my father before) Now, I send Cad$3000 every year. However, when I called them earlier this year, the wife told me that their monthly pay from retirement plus the money I send does not cover their expenses. She told me they receive about $800 RMB from retirement, plus the money I sent which is about $1500RMB/month. Every month, she need to pay rent for $850RMB, a helper for $600RMB. (I asked they to get a helper because they are over 80 years old and they've been having problem of walking for long time.) Also, the husband is very sick, he needs to go to hosipital quite often. The health plan does not cover 100% therefore they have to pay part of the cost.
Can anyone who knows Shanghai tell me how much it cost to live in Shanghai, such as food, living and in their case, the cost to go to the hospital. I want to know do they really need more help, or just because they feel insecure because of the inflation in Shanghai. Very soon, I have to send them another cheque, therefore I need to know how much do they really need, rather than what they want.
Thank you for your help.
