Come to the Kaiser Permanente San Francisco International Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday, Sept. 22, and Sunday, Sept. 23, for a weekend of world-class dragon boat racing, spectacular cultural performances, and fun-filled activities for the whole family.
Admission is free.
Dragon boat racing began over 2,000 years ago as part of an ancient Chinese legend. Today, it is one of the fastest-growing team sports; and this year more than 100 dragon boat teams from around the world will be competing in the annual Treasure Island event. Cheer the KPSF Dragon Healers and the KP Dragons of the East Bay as they compete against paddlers from around the world.
The Kaiser Permanente teams will be racing on Saturday during the following times: (Please note that these times are approximate.)
8 - 9:40 a.m. Preliminary race
10:30 - 11:15 a.m. Preliminary race
1:45 - 2:30 p.m. Women's race
2:35 p.m. Health Care Challenge
2:45 - 3:15 p.m. Men's race
In addition to the boat racing, the Festival features many cultural activities – an entertainment stage with live dance and music performances; Dragon Land, a children's activity tent; and a variety of food, arts & crafts, and other vendors.
Dragon Boat Festival Hours:
Racing Saturday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Sunday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Festival Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Driving Directions to the Dragon Boat Festival on Treasure Island:
To get to Treasure Island from San Francisco or the East Bay, take the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge/Highway 80, stay in the left lane, and take the "Treasure Island / Yerba Buena Island" exit just before coming to the Yerba Buena Island tunnel.
Please observe all posted on-Island speed limits.
Follow the road past the main gate / guard station to California Avenue and turn right.
You will be directed by parking staff to the appropriate parking lots.
