今天是友誼日，1935年有人在美國發起把每年八月的第一個星期天定為友誼日。今天世界上有許多國家，包括印度，朋友們都聚在一起慶祝，表達彼此的感情與愛。一早打開郵箱，便收到印度詩友AK 的來信。順手把它譯出來貼在這裡，祝大家都有個溫馨快樂的友誼日。
Today is Friendship Day. The following letter is from my poetry friend AK from India. I posted it here, with my Chinese translation, to wish all of my friends a happy Friendship Day.
Dear Dr. Marr,
Today is the Friendship Day, reminding us of the greatest gift of life: Friendship. Can we define friendship? According to Helen Keller, walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light. Octavio Paz writes in his poem Friendship: 'Night turns the window to immensity/There is no one here/Presence without name surrounds me'.
Though we've not met, I feel your presence over here on the other side of the globe across the vast expanse of the Atlantic.

親愛的馬博士，
今天是友誼日，提醒我們生命中最大的禮物：友誼。 我們能為友誼下定義嗎？根據海倫•凱樂（Helen Keller），同一個朋友在黑暗中走要比獨個兒在亮光中走好。奥克塔维奥•帕斯（Octavio Paz）在他一首題為＜友誼＞的詩中說：“夜把窗子變得浩瀚無邊/沒有人在這裡/我的四周有無名者的存在”。
