1. Forbidden Fruit
In the Garden of Eden
A bright blossom
Bears a smiling red fruit
That enables the green leaves around it
To hide their greed
But a wind from afar
Picks that apple without a hitch
And carries away
The floating-off shade of Eve
Leaving behind a faint scent of the forbidden fruit
Lingering on
In the empty Garden

Midsummer Fallen Leaves
When I drove passing a small street
today
I saw fallen leaves drifting profusely, like rain
Then I realized, and saw
they were all very sad
having been used to a lush life
aloft the green trees
they really don't want to come down
Outside of my glass window, one after another leaves sweep past
I don't know why my eyes rain a flood of tears
and in no time at the corners of my mouth something salty and bitter appears
Each leave has to experience up and down
No one is particular enough to shun
Today's distress is that
They don't fall in autumn in which they are due to fall
But in the heat of this summer day
Oh, to these poor leaves' young fatality
a poem I present
but unexpectedly
my very self turn out to be the recipient

INTERNATIONAL POETRY MINI CARNIVAL
JUST WANT TO DREAM
I’ve always been dreaming of zeroing
the distance between us with a ticket
For this I’ve designed many dreams
So beautiful dreams that
I’m carried away and can’t bear to wake up
I’ve always been dreaming of composing an erotic
As a tribute for each other
For this I’ve tried for many times
But each time I get myself entrapped and can’t get out
For I fail to describe clearly
Gazing at the Moon that seems near but so far
Oh, What wonderful dreams, What excellent erotics
Tonight, I just want to dream, having no heart to write lines.

Title: Childhood Friendship
-- To Hongzhu, My Friend
To those without close affinity,
parting means to be parted forever
you and me, having strong appeal to each other
Are fated to meet again to continue our friendship.
When we meet again after an interval of more than twenty years
I see you are still so pure, though suffering a little hair loss.
Others appraise your today
but I can tell what you were when you were a little girl
who says you are already middle-aged?
That skip before my eyes are clearly
Your childhood smiling face and glow
There are shadows of your childhood
In every of your moves
I can make you return to the childhood you
Even without turning into a fairy to do it.
The brave you once took a pair of scissors
and cut my long braids short
with one stroke.
In those years
we led a sweet life
with empty purses
in those years
we were as charming as lily
though we couldn't afford slip dresses.
We used to play under the same clover tree
that was a pure land that refused pollution
we used to sing in the same boat
on a holy water that didn't tolerate infringement.
The puerility we made
and the junior years we got through together
typecast both your life and mine.
Your childhood is mine
And mine is yours
It's true
That mountains may change into seas
And seas may change into mulberry fields
But the unchangeable is childhood friendship,
It's the most beautiful broad accent
It's the origin of life
From there a cluster of white doves
Sets out on a flight toward future.

One side is spring
the other autumn
you are the spring
I the autumn
the spring and the autumn
on opposite sides of a paper
or the distance
between the corners of the world
spring and autumn
with temperatures alike
yet never belong
to the same season

It's neither frivolous nor drifty
Water in the river swells over its banks
Willow branches brush the water
It's neither frivolous nor drifty
Water in the ocean embraces the beaches
Waves caress the reefs
It's neither frivolous nor drifty

7. Alley
May or June
the rain is gentle so is the wind
in the sleepy alley
myths are written all over the walls
a woman, leaning against the window
bathes herself in the afternoon sun
at the other end of the alley
a pair of eyes appears
bright and hot as July
gazing from May or June
into the distant October or November
beautiful lines are constantly being inscribed
on the walls in the sleepy alley

8. Bride of Spring
I don’t know what kind of fan spring uses
to fan green the grass to fan red the flowers
I don’t know what kind of comb spring uses
to comb gardens and streets into beautiful sceneries
I only know in my garden
a splendid rose is blooming
at the most eye-catching spot
on the street a greeting float
is coming from the direction of bird flight
O spring is so sweet and charming
I want to be the bride of spring
9. Your Autumn Leaves, My Water
Leaves from your tree
scattered onto my yard
water from my house
soaked your lawn
Even on the dividing line
It’s hard to define
Which side is yours,
Which side is mine.
The fallen leaves, if you want,
I can pick them up
And give them back to you
But you can’t return
The water from my house
That ran into your lawn

10. The Hint of June
The blue sky is touching me, touching
And entering in my heart with the white clouds
The garden in June
Has new buds sprouting every night
And new flowers blossoming every morn
The mighty main in June
That holds the dreams of the sky
Moves the dancing wings of foamy flowers
A ship sailing into the distance
Is softly blending the hues
Of the sky and the sea
Two coconut trees standing hand in hand
On the windfront shore
Unable to get the hint of June

11. The Bird
Ah, hair standing on end
I found it turned out to be a bird
Launching off the tree.
I don’t know
Whether I scared her
Or she scared me.
What a bird!
For I turned back
But she, didn’t.

12. The Seventeen’s
The emerald-like innermost feeling of the yore
Spreads out at the deepest part of the soul
Shimmering with dark-green light on the other bank of time
The maid wearing a pink skirt
With a confused heart
Often strolls on the bank-side grass
Yet she can never pass
Even with expectation and aspirations
The ivy-coated door
Daylight and starlight continually keep replacing each other
With tear drops gliding adown on the strings
Crystal clear, salty bitter, and still silent
The ever-lasting fair shadow of adolescence
Treads the lawn of life painful
And the sweetness of seventeen’s will stay lingering lifetime after all.

13 Wind
The wind is blowing
The flare of my skirt is flying
Ah, wind
Don’t mention the word-LOVE to me
For it’s too light and too heavy
For my small hand
To lift

14.To Post a Heart
The early spring
Put a wildly beating heart
Into an envelope
sheepish all the way to a mailbox
She gritted her teeth, and loosened her hands
Then a heart slipped into it
Red-faced, she clapped her hands on her eyes
While nobody could see through her fingers
She ran away, and disappeared like a wreath of vapour

15 To Cast Cobblestones
I cast one after another cobblestones
Down Into the water
To measure the distance
The surprised surface
wimples ripples
With waves all linked one another
running a relay race to convey the good intention
I cast, cast, and cast down
While the sun with the moon and stars alternate on, and on.

16. To Pick Roses
I just want to pick one rose
Although you gave me
a whole garden
So many flowers!
But which is the most beloved one
Which one should I pick?
Before I could make a choice
My tears flowed down
And dropped on the sheepish stamen
Of a rose with thorn
by the bottom of my skirt
Is it dew
Or tear?

17. The Star and the Sea
Unaware of its depth,
The star in love with the sea,
Twinkles her eyes
To take a look
Two eyes twinkle in concert
Doomed to descend to the human world
Flies down in a knife of dawn
What a pity! It’s just a dream.

18. Step onto Shore
No, I can’t go on any more
Distant and uncertain is the sea
So I have to cherish my cravings in my heart.
No, I can’t go on any more
So I just present a photo
To accompany the sea
No, I can’t go on any more
Unable to swim
What waiting for me is mostly fatality.
No, I’m not afraid of death
But that there would be more storms
And less tranquility
On the sea without me

19. Gone
Seeing your back fade away into the yonder
I felt my heart trembling
How I wished you would turn back
Or leave a thread of tenderness behind
But you are you
I saw you off with my tear-blurred eyes
Oh, so cold! Is it after all
The scorching summer
Or the icy winter?

20. Near and Far
Approaching, in haste
Getting near
After all
Truly near
Far so unknownly far away
That we’ve become strangers
Really
become strangers?

Moonlight Scarf and Two Other Poems
by Rose Lu
21 Moonlight Scarf
Lying in softness
To gaze the stars with my eyes closed
But I see you standing in the icy snow.
I knit a Scarf
With moonlight
And let the frosty wind send it to you
No
I let it take me over
For I want to put
This warm Scarf on you
With my own hands
To see with my own eyes
How your face
Turn into a smiling happy sun.

22That Door
The door which I’ve been craving for,
Desperately, for its being opened for me
Out of day in the night
I’ve been longing for half of my lifetime
and finally I find it open
However, lacking the guts to go forward
I can only silently crave
With tear-filled eyes
The door is
Closed again
Locking the pains I never dare to touch
inside
That door
Is the center of my whole life
And what I’ve being searched for three lives
Will the door I’ve been craving for
Open for me once more
and let me exchange with the remainder of my life
for an advance in the real sense

23Flourish and Fade
Every floral flourishing
Is a hope of dream
Every brilliant blow
Is a risk of life
When a flower blooms,
I don’t know if it will bear fruit
But when it flourishes
I know it’ll inevitably fade
They say women are like flowers
And maidens the freshest
There isn’t a single flower that never fades
Nor a maiden who can stay forever in her prime
Both natural flourishing and unhurried fading
Are romances
A frosty-headed fair lady
gazes at the withering petals in the tree
As a gust of wind blows
They fly away with the breeze
The lady
Smiles in the wind
so brightly
As brightly as a flourishing daisy
