The clever monkey
Once there was a tiger.
He was caught by a hunter and locked in a cage.
The tiger wanted to get out.
He saw a deer passing by.
“Please help me,” cried the tiger.
“Open the door and let me out.”
“Oh, no,” said the deer.
“You will eat me if I let you out.”
“I promise I won’t eat you,” said the tiger.
“I’ll be your friend and take care of you.”
The deer wanted to make friends with the tiger, so he opened the door.
All at once, the tiger jumped on the deer, ready to eat him.
“You promised not to eat me,” cried the deer.
“But I am very hungry and there is nothing else to eat,”
Said the tiger,
“So I have to eat you.”
”This is so unfair,” cried the deer.
“No, it isn’t,” said the tiger.
“I am hungry and I have to eat you.”
Just then, a monkey came along.
“Monkey, do you think it is right for tiger to eat me?”
Asked the deer.
“Well, all tigers like to eat deer,” said the monkey,” so tiger will want to eat you.”
“But I saved his life,” cried the deer.
“He shouldn’t eat me.”
“You did not save my life.” Roared the tiger.
“Please tiger,” said the monkey, “show me where you were. Then I can see if the deer really saved your life.”
The tiger walked back into the cage.
The monkey quickly closed the door and locked it.
Then he and the deer went on their way.
