《蜗居》所反映和展现的，无一不是当今社会的热点问题：房子、贪官和“二奶”。惯于表现都市情感和世俗生活的编剧六六，用丝毫不加遮饰的语言、情节，将房子所带给人们的喜怒哀乐，将贪官和“二奶”的思想和情感，赤裸裸地展现在了我们面前，风格之大胆、泼辣，为国产电视剧所罕见。看完全剧，我不禁感叹：原来国产电视剧也敢这样拍，也可以这样拍！
本剧的成功之处还在于，它所表现的每一个人物，都是复杂的、立体的、矛盾的，海萍、苏淳、海藻、宋思明，无一不是情感和思想矛盾的结合体。譬如海萍，她作为海藻的姐姐，一方面教育妹妹要珍惜爱情，珍惜小贝，却又不自觉地、时不时地拿自己的逼仄生活来现身说法，告诫海藻没有物质的爱情是靠不住的；她一面劝海藻远离宋思明这个危险人物，一面却又接受了海藻借宋思明的六万块钱用于还债，可以说，海藻之所以离开了小贝傍上了宋思明，海萍要负很大一部分责任。真实的人生也是如此矛盾的，现实的人们对待权力和金钱的态度，也是这样的摇摆不定，一方面从小到大所受的教育让我们懂得人要自强自立，不能依赖别人，可当生活中处处因为金钱掣肘时，人们在金钱面前就变得软弱起来，气短起来，本该对引诱妹妹的宋思明抱以鄙视和愤怒的海萍，因为宋思明曾数次帮助她和苏淳，从而在宋思明面前失去了应有的是非观和道德底气，这就是丑陋却又真实的凡俗人生写照。
《蜗居》，像一把刀，残忍地剥开了灰色的城市人生，将这个时代城市居民的迷惘与困惑、矛盾与挣扎、情感与欲望生动地展现在了观众面前，每个人都能从里面看到小部分的自己。
