Prologue to autobiography

I had a dream 

The day before I was born 
In it, my father was sculpting a sun image in stone 
By the banks of a river that the mountains had called back 
In an island not known in which sea it was 
Mother was dancing in the streets of a city 
Which is a dense forest now 
Father was burnt alive in the forest fire 
Sparked off from the stone chisel, 
Mother was drowned to death 
In the deluge spread out from a sweat drop 
Scattered from her anklet 
God had kept me in a Chinese jar 
Which we used to pickle in tender mangoes 
At our house now non-existent by the paddy field 
Along with a grain of paddy 
A measure of darkness, a centipede 
And a star
The granny who killed herself swallowing a diamond
Scared of Tippu Sultan’s onslaught told me stories 
And a butterfly that caught in spider web 
The day the Simon Commission came to India 
Drew me pictures 
It was that dream my mother gave birth to 
The next morning.

奶奶被苏丹的追捕吓坏了,
遂吞下一颗钻石自杀,
她给我讲过许多故事。


一只被困在蜘蛛网中的蝴蝶,
在西蒙委员会来到印度那天,
为我画了几张画。


正是这个梦,次日凌晨,母亲生出了它。

If I could wield a brush
That yields blooms as yours does
Or if I were known for skill at writing
Like the calligrapher Xin Yi
Then tinnitus would be an oratorio
Insomnia would be a nocturne
Death would be a tune on pan-pipes
Or a piano sonata
But I don't have that
I write characters with a computer
My command of the inkbrush is rusty
My written words resemble infertile seeds
A sheet of white paper

经过了许多年的等待

我的鱼钩啊
终于在没有鱼的池塘里
自己游了起来
但在更多年的游动之后
它满脸无奈地
一口吞下了自己




我以为




我以为被军火做过手术的视力

能把血肉看穿


我以为欲望在后面不停地推动世界
一次也不会落空
我以为快感这个词甚至能让我
在被风暴的强暴中达到高潮
我以为对饥饿者来讲
世界只有食品与非食品之分
我以为再节省的人也免不了使用嫉妒请客
我以为一旦认识了镜子就要为其打扮终身
我以为最前面的人不是观赏前面的景点
而是为了回头欣赏后面的风光
我以为天生的两排牙证明了集体的强悍
这就是个人要靠拢组织的理由
我以为一旦停电
就马上能让二十一世纪下台
我还以为
和平是动物性的人类最起码的追求
精神世界则充满了更多理想的陷阱


所以
我以为子弹的速度最有说服力
这世界还没有比它更快的文明

The world is divided into edibles and non-edibles 
Seems to me the thriftiest folks end up treating others to envy 
Seems to me once you make the mirror's acquaintance,
it has you dressing up for a lifetime 
Seems to me the person furthest ahead is not there to enjoy the view 
He would rather turn and watch the scene behind 
Seems to me two rows of teeth are nature's way of proving collective strength 
Which is why individuals lean toward organizations 
Seems to me it would take nothing more than a power blackout 
To unseat the 21st Century from history's stage 
It seems to me 
Peace is the minimal quest of our animal nature 
But the spiritual realm is filled with traps of ideals 


And so 
It seems to me the speed of bullets is most persuasive
In this world, no other kind of civilization works quicker

I often stroll on the shores of my past,
expectations and aspirations, 
like daylight and starlight
replacing 
they come and go.


On those banks of time
the feelings of my past
so lush and bountiful 
spread out over time 
arising from the deepest part of my soul.
And yet, I know I can never enter 
never pass through that again.


Those memories and bitter-sweetness,
the bitter-sweetness of seventeen,
of my adolescence, lingers on.

Wandering around the world, the body waits in a line to find his soul. 
The soul is beyond the cloud.
Never stoop to the mask which undergoes swelling and transforming. 


Surrender or not, 
The day and night still exist. 
Wherever you fly , there are transistions between goodness and evil.


The flowers are swayed by the spring breeze.
The mirrors are made at the Bronze age. 
The sea is surrounded by the flying gulls. 
And the ancient temple is memoried throughout thousands of years. 


I am a prunus standing in the rain. 
I am an ancient sword witnessing the truth of a century. 
I am a fish swimming through the big waves. 
I am a clock never stops even when the day turns into the night. 


Never have I ever found a better self.
However, I am your body. 
I am missing when you're missing. 
I am alive when you're alive. 


You can stand behind me. 
Let me take on your exposed desire.
But, you need to prove that, 
I am a flying Angel.

are fleeting. The birds and bees
Come only for food. They left their footprints on the cliff.


Just stay where I am
The pear blossom is falling
I finally get rid of my burdens
The scriptures from the monks

幼年的时光,不懂什么叫失联
趔趔趄趄的寻觅之间
邻家长者抚摸女儿的手背
于是幻想发芽
派遣仁爱,摸着黑前往远方


父亲之孽
大约是雪莲之罪
是与生俱来的素颜
难容尘埃的侵染


之后才知,或山河或家园
就像这一朵雪莲
难免历经一段突如其来的风雪
难免不被劫匪的马蹄踏成粉碎


父亲的风骨,铺洒在此
我曾泪流满面地寻找、祈愿
祈愿被血水浸泡的诗篇
有一份清白如阳光的叙述,而不是
虚拟的花好月圆
祈愿,让再生的丛草不再
长出行刺的属性
让雪莲的莖须根植每一寸土地
让流连者满含温婉

My Father in Delhi

Half a century ago,
The setting sun vanished
In the shimmer of Delhi’s barren mountain.
The snow lotus with wisdom
Were all exiled here
Enlightening
The Chinese Gulag immediately. 

In my youth, I had no idea what lost was.
During an inadequate search, 
The elderly neighbor touched the back of his daughter’s hand.
And imagined rebirth
Sending out kindness and love, moved forward in the darkness.

My father’s sin
Is probably the guilt of the snow lotus.
Its natural purity
Can’t tolerate the dust.

Later I understood the mountains or rivers,
Just like the snow lotus,
Can’t avoid the sudden snowstorms.
Can’t avoid the crush from the robbers’ horseshoes.

My father’s style, spread out here.
I was looking for it with pain.
Hoping the poem soaked in his blood
Could be written in a positive way, not 
With singular perfection. 

Pray the new grass won’t
Grow to thorns,
That the snow lotus could be seen everywhere and
Gentility could be found in the nostalgic. 

Even though the path is covered with grass and thorns
I will follow my father, put on my windbreaker,
Face the piercing wind.


I only pray
“Dear executioner,
You are supposed to keep your humanity even though you are god now.

At this moment,
Don’t point the gun at me.
Before I leave, I need to kiss the tips of my sons toes
With my frozen lips.”


*  The Gulag Archipelago is a classic book written by Russian writer Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. 40 years ago, the prison Delhi in the west of China is regarded as the Chinese Gulag, where a lot of political prisoners were sentenced there.

The most memorable part of Court Ladies Preparing Newly Woven Silk is the author's grasp of life interest and the description of details. With exquisite and subtle depiction, the artist recorded the diverse beauty of the woman's posture during the silk production process: the powerful beauty of the coordination with each other when pestling,the quiet beauty of the thread around the finger end when sewing, and the demure beauty of the concentration when ironing,all of these reflected the spirit of the women in the Tang Dynasty and the connotation of the times.Perhaps the painter who felt that the work scene of the production was too dull and tranquil, he ingeniously joined a naughty child shuttling under the silk,and a girl was lighting a fire, however, the temperature was so high that she had to cover her face with her sleeve. The integration of these little details make the tedious production process vivid and lively.
